La vie est un mystère - Carrousel LPLa vie est un mystère

Rs 3,200available

A groundbreaking album from Réunion Island's early fusion scene, Carrousel's "La vie est un mystère" (Life is a Mystery) was originally released in 1982. Helmed by the influential multi-instrumentalist Loy Ehrlich, Carrousel was ahead of its time, pioneering a unique blend of rock, jazz, and traditional Réunionnais music (Maloya and Séga).

This visionary project featured complex arrangements, exploring both acoustic and electric sounds, with lyrics often sung in Creole. The album includes contributions from members of the legendary group Caméléons (where Loy Ehrlich also played) and is considered a precursor to much of the modern Maloya fusion that followed. A rare and essential piece of Indian Ocean musical history.

A seminal and highly sought-after album from Réunion, "La Vie Est Un Mystère" is a unique fusion of traditional Maloya, progressive rock, jazz, and experimental sounds. Composed almost entirely by the multi-instrumentalist Loy Ehrlich, this 1982 recording is a visionary and timeless piece of Indian Ocean music. This 2023 reissue from Babani Records and Kréol Art makes this rare gem available once again.
