Mouvman Kiltirel Basse Terre is a foundational album by Baster, one of the most influential groups in the history of maloya from Réunion Island. Emerging from the cultural and political movements of the 1980s, the record embodies maloya as a music of identity, resistance and collective expression, rooted in traditional percussion, call-and-response vocals and Creole language. This vinyl reedition, released in 2020, was recorded by Philippe “Filou” de Magnée and issued by Mizikali in collaboration with zanana records, restoring the raw energy of the original recordings while reaffirming the album’s central place in Réunion’s cultural and musical history.
